A good Knife – the campers best friend
Like probably any boy, I always loved well made knifes. I can remember spending hours as a kid looking at an outdoors catalogue from German Outdoor shop AFT (or Globetrotter as its called now) and planning how I would spend my savings.
Whilst I always had Swiss army knifes, I wasn’t allowed a fixed blade for some reason. Now Victorinox knifes are great and get most things done. But they also have their limits.
Before a recent trip I purchased in addition to a folding saw a small hatchet to chop firewood. The added weight of carrying that thing around was obvious to me from the beginning. However realising how difficult the task actually is and how dangerous it can be was a learning curve. Everyone can swing an axe. Though hitting a log right in the middle needs practice.
So giving it some more thought, I decided a bigger knife or machete made a lot more sense to the job.
